BELAGAVI: The war effect in the Middle East has led to a crash in cabbage prices, leaving farmers in distress. In Kadoli village of Belagavi taluk, farmers are destroying their cabbage crops worth thousands of rupees, as the price has plummeted to Rs 1.50 per kg.
A 10-kg bag of cabbage is now selling for just Rs 10-15, resulting in huge losses for farmers who spent around Rs 50,000 per acre on cultivation. With no buyers, farmers are forced to destroy their crops.
Meanwhile, hotels are struggling due to a commercial gas shortage, further exacerbating the crisis. The situation has led to an increase in farmer suicides, with many unable to repay loans. Farmers are demanding that the government fix prices to prevent further distress.
