CHAMARAJANAGAR: A farmer in Mangala village of Gundlupet taluk has installed razor barbed wire fence along with solar fencing on his land near the Bandipur forest to keep wild animals at bay. However, his action has raised concerns as it could potentially risk the lives of wild animals.

While farmers living near forests usually erect solar electricity fences to protect their crops, the action of farmer Senthil Kumar has come in for criticism from wildlife activists. A video of the razor barbed wire fence on his farm on the edge of the Bandipur tiger reserve is doing the rounds on social media.

Solar electricity fences are designed to deliver mild shocks which are usually enough to keep away animals. However, razor barbed wire fencing can endanger the lives of wild animals.
