Farmer dumps onion produce on highway after sharp drop in price

The farmer rolled on the road after dumping a bag of onions.

VIJAYAPURA: A farmer dumped his onion produce on the highway and rolled on the road after the prices crashed, at Ronihal village in Kolhar taluk on Tuesday.

The farmer, Nandappa Guddad, vented his anger at the middlemen and the government for the steep fall in prices. Along with him, farmer Mallikarjun Golagond also dumped his onion harvest.

The price of onion at the Kolhar market in Vijayapura district had dropped to Rs 250 per quintal on Tuesday. The farmers said they wouldn’t even be able to recover their input cost if the prices are so low.
