BENGALURU: Puneeth Rajkumar’s last docu-drama ‘Gandhadagudi’ was released on Friday and fans welcomed him on the big screen with never-before seen celebrations across the state.

The Gandadagudi premiere show was held in various multiplexes of the city on Thursday night. Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, along with Sandalwood celebrities Ramya, Rakshit Shetty, Rishab Shetty, Devaraj, Prajwal Devaraj, Sangeeta Sringeri and others, including Sudha Murty, chairperson of Infosys Foundation, watched the film.

Theatres in the city including Nartaki, Prasanna, Pruthvi, Siddeshwara and others were filled with fans celebrating his last movie. Most of the fans were emotional after watching the actor one last time on the big screen.

The actor’s fans in the city have erected around 75 cut-outs with huge garlands outside his memorial at Kanteerava Studios and around 2-3 km of the area are decorated with lights.

In memory of Puneeth Rajkumar and coinciding with his last movie, Pavan, a fan, gave free haircuts to his customers at KG Temple village in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district, on Thursday and plans to do it again on Friday. He also added that he will give free haircuts every year during the actor’s memorial service.

Fans at Lakshmi theatre near Channapatna taluk celebrated his last movie by distributing food and organising blood donation camps in his memory. Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar and Amoghavarsha, the director of the docu-drama, visited the Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hills in Mysuru and the Nimishamba Devi temple near Srirangapatna.

Gandhadagudi is about exploring nature along with director Amogavarsha. The two travel to an island in Karnataka, and talk about the ecosystem. The movie is a docu-drama and also the late actor’s dream project.
