BENGALURU: The family of a daily-wage worker donated his organs at the Trauma and Emergency Care Centre, Victoria Hospital, which will give a new lease of life to other patients waiting for organ transplant.
Naramisha Murthy (42), a resident of Hosadurga Bagepalli in Chikkaballapur district, fell from a tamarind tree on March 13 and was initially taken to the Bagepalli general hospital, where he was intubated and referred to the Trauma and Emergency Care Centre in Bengaluru. He was declared brain dead on March 14.
Even in the midst of their grief, Narasimha Murthy’s wife Adilakshmi and son Jagan, who is studying in the first year of an ITI course, considered organ donation, thereby giving hope to patients waiting for organ transplant.
The brain-dead patient’s liver, eyes, and heart valves were retrieved and the body was handed over to the family. A walk of honour was held as a mark of respect by the hospital staff.
Incidentally, this was the 17th organ retrieval surgery done at the Trauma and Emergency Care Centre, a government hospital, in one year, a statement from Dr Deepak S, Special Officer, Trauma &Emergency Care Centre, said.
