BENGALURU: With the Indian Premier League (IPL) already under way, fake ticket scams are already surfacing in Bengaluru. To curb this, the city police have shifted to online ticket sales.
In a recent incident, counterfeit tickets worth Rs 1,500 were detected during the inaugural RCB vs SRH match. The scammers had duplicated the tickets and sold them. When the fake ticket-holders tried to enter the stadium, the QR codes on the tickets could not be scanned, raising police suspicions.
The police have now made tickets for the RCB vs CSK match available only online. They’re also experimenting with a novel approach — embedding metro tickets within IPL tickets. This innovative move has garnered interest from metro authorities in other cities including Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi, who are reaching out to BMRCL officials for more information.
