BENGALURU: A fake Naga Sadhu duped a car driver in Bengaluru by hypnotizing him for a while and stole his 10-gram gold finger ring near Shangri-La hotel in High Ground Police Station limits on April 19.
The driver, Venkatakrishnaiah from Vyalikaval, had stopped the car by the side of the road after dropping off his owner. A fake Naga Sadhu approached him, claiming he needed to rest for five minutes. The sadhu then handed the driver five rudrakshas, asking him to return one. When the driver returned a rudraksha wrapped in paper, the sadhu claimed it had transformed into a flower, saying it was good fortune and would bring him prosperity and the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
The sadhu then asked the driver to give him the gold ring from his hand, which he did. As the driver handed over the ring, the sadhu applied an ash-like substance on the driver’s forehead and told him to leave the place without looking back, warning him of harm if he didn’t comply.
Believing the sadhu’s words, the driver left, only to realize later that he had been cheated. His family members then filed a complaint at the High Ground police station.
