Fake currency gang busted in Gokak, six arrested

BELAGAVI: The Gokak police have busted a gang involved in counterfeiting currency notes and arrested six people. It is said that the arrested were inspired by the Hindi web series ‘Farzi’.

The arrested are Anwar Yadawad, Saddam Yadalli, Ravi Hyagadi, Dundappa Onashenavi, Vittal Hosathotal and Mallappa Kundali. They were involved in creating fake notes of Rs 100 and Rs 500 face value.

The gang was caught when the police had gone to seize a car at Kadabagatti Gudda in Gokak town. The police found 305 fake notes of Rs 100 and 6,792 notes of Rs 500 face value in the car. Upon further investigation, it was found that the gang was printing the notes at a house at Arabhavi in Mudalagi taluk during the night.

The police have seized the fake currency notes, a printer, screening board, paint, printing paper and six mobile phones, all worth Rs 5,23,900 and registered a case at the Gokak police station, SP Bheemashankar Guled said.

The gang would circulate Rs 5 lakh in fake currency for Rs 1 lakh in authentic currency notes. They were operating in Bagalkot, Mahalingapura, Gokak and Mudalagi, police said. This is the second fake currency gang to be busted in a year in the border district, police said.
