BALLARI, CHIKKODI: A worker died after he fell into a boiler pit at the BMM Ispat Ltd unit at Danapur in Hosapete taluk on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Nagraj (39), a resident of Kamalapura.
Nagraj was working as an operator, handling slag and other allied materials at the blast furnace section and was employed by GKN Enterprises. He slipped and fell into the pit containing hot water and suffered severe burns all over his body.
Nagraj ws immediately shifted to a hospital, but he did not survive. The Mariyammahalli police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
In another incident, a fire broke out at the Halasiddinatha Cooperative Sugar Factory on the outskirs of Nipani in Belagavi district on Saturday. Luckily, there was no loss of life.
The fire first broke out in a 24-ton boiler and spread quickly, damaging property worth about Rs 5 crore. Nine fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the blaze. The incident occurred under Nipani police limits.
