HUBBALLI: Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who has been asked to make way for a newcomer from Hubballi-Dharwad Central Assembly constituency, is leaving for New Delhi on today (Wednesday) after he received a call from the BJP top bosses.
Shettar was called to Delhi by BJP national president J P Nadda himself for discussions after he insisted that he will contest the upcoming election and had added that he will remain in active politics for the next 10 years.
Addressing a press conference here before heading to Delhi, he said he is ready to announcement his retirement at any time, but that his exit should be dignified. “I’m ready to retire from politics at any time, but the exit should be honourable and this is not the way. I am going to Delhi because the party national president called me for discussions and I am positive about the outcome”.
Shettar said that he was supposed to go to Bengaluru and then head to Delhi, but as the flight got delayed, he will be heading straight to Delhi. “I will meet senior leader B S Yediyurappa upon my return. I worked for two years without any position or power to strengthen the party and I have got so many works done through the ministers. I am hopeful of a positive response and I will make my decision known after the meeting with the central leaders”, he said.
He also pointed out that some leaders who are aged 75 and 76 have been given tickets and questioned who are seniors — those who are aged or those who are senior in politics.
