BENGALURU: The weather department has forecast rain for one week in the state and has said all districts are likely to receive rain from May 11. The rain over the last few days has brought the much-needed relief from the sweltering heat.
The weather department has said that Bengaluru may experience moderate rain today too along with thunder and wind. The city recorded 17.9 mm of rain on Wednesday evening while at HAL it was 5.2 mm. Chitradurga recorded 11. 5 mm of rain while Kalaburagi registered 14 mm on rain on Wednesday.
There was a huge cave-in at the Metro work site in Pottery Town on Wednesday evening following the heavy rain. The cave-in was about 6 feet wide, 20 feet deep and 12 feet long and work on the underground station is going on close by. Some of the pillars too were damaged. Luckily, there was no loss of life as no vehicles were on the road at that time. Metro officials visited the spot and inspected the damage.
Residents of MC Colony in the vicinity said there was a small pothole about seven months ago which the Metro authorities had covered with a sandbag. Due to Namma Metro’s negligence, the stretch of road has collapsed now, they charged.
At Chowdeshwari Nagar in Laggare, an electricity police and broken branches of trees fell on a car following the rain. No one was in the car at that time.
