MANDYA: Excise officials from Srirangapatna on Wednesday intercepted a motorcycle and seized 12 kg of ganja worth Rs 7 lakh in the international market. They also arrested two people in this connection.
Based on specific information, a team of Excise officials, led by DC Nagashayana, intercepted the two-wheeler near Bommur Agrahara and nabbed Irshad and Akbar, who hail from Mysuru and Gundlupet, respectively.
Officials said the duo was travelling on a motorcycle without registration plates and were planning to peddle ganja in Mandya. They would get ganja from Odisha and peddle the narcotic in Mysuru, Mandya and other districts.
Officials said several cases have been registered against the duo earlier. The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act and the vehicle has been seized. Further investigation is under way.
