Entire Masaguppi village in Belagavi submerged in Ghataprabha’s flood water

BELAGAVI: The entire Masaguppi village in Belagavi district was completely submerged under floodwater of the Ghataprabha river late on Sunday, due to overflowing rivers and incessant rains.Thousands of houses were surrounded by water and people were panicking due to flooding.

The drone camera of Public TV has captured the visuals of the flooded village. In view of the heavy rainfall in Khanapur and the Western Ghats region, water has been released from the Naviluteertha dam in Savadatti taluk. The reservoir, built across the Malaprabha river near Munavalli, has a storage level of 2,079.50 feet and the water level has already reached 2072 feet.

Water is being released from the dam with only 7 feet of storage level remaining. The dam currently is wit   nessing an inflow of 20,000 cusecs while 5,000 cusecs of water are being released from the dam. Following the release of water from the dam, people living on the banks of the Malaprabha river, including Ramdurg and Munavalli, are facing the threat of flood.

A giant crocodile was spotted on the banks of the overflowing Malaprabha river, near Matolli village in Bailahongal taluk, and locals have captured the visuals on their mobile phones. The sighting of the crocodile created panic among farmers in the region, who have requested forest officials to relocate the crocodile immediately.
