BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to train its engineers in techniques to be followed while filling potholes.
BBMP Technical Advisory Committee members including Professor Rajagopal, Professor Jagadish and Professor Anjaneyappa have suggested the need to have a workshop for the engineers. On October 31, an in-house training session will be conducted for the engineers at Town Hall. Besides, on October 30, Rasta Institute will also conduct a practical training session. The session will cover knowledge of bitumen extraction tests, quality tests and gradation tests.
Earlier, a workshop was conducted in 2016-17 on pothole filling and training was given to engineers. At the same time, BBMP also released a book. At present, the Chief Engineer and Assistant Engineers need to be advised on filling potholes properly. Due to heavy rain, potholes have increased in the city and, as a result, plans are being chalked out to give training to the engineers.
After fatal accidents due to potholes and poor condition of roads in the city, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has given permission to four contractors to set up raw material processing units in different parts of the city. The contractors have been instructed to fill the potholes zone-wise.
