HASSAN: A 35-year-old engineer committed suicide by jumping into the Hemavati river in Shettihalli village in the district. The deceased engineer has been identified as Pramod, who was a resident of Indiranagar in Hassan.
Pramod was reportedly fed up with constant quarrels with his wife and harassment from her family members, including his brothers-in-law. On December 29, Pramod left his house, leaving his mobile phone behind. His parents looked for him and later filed a missing person’s complaint at the KR Puram police station.
That night, Pramod’s bike was found near the Hemavati river bridge, with bank passbooks and other documents inside. When the police found the phone number and dialed it, Pramod’s father received the call, and the police informed his parents about his death.
The local police and fire department personnel searched for Pramod in the river from December 30, but his body was recovered only on Wednesday morning. The Alur police visited the spot and registered a case. It is alleged that Pramod’s wife and her relatives had been harassing him, leading to the suicide. Further investigation is under way.
