Engineer commits suicide at work site near Maddur village, family alleges foulplay

MANDYA: An engineer with a private construction firm committed suicide by hanging from a water tank close to his work site near Kestur village in Maddur taluk, allegedly due to work pressure, on Saturday. His family has, however, raised suspicion over his death.

Jnanesh was working as an engineer with Bajpuji Constructions which is executing the Shimsha lift irrigation project in Maddur taluk. On his WhatsApp status, he had uploaded the words ‘Work Pressure’. Jnanesh hailed from Periyapatna taluk in Mysuru district and was staying in a rented accommodation in Kestur.

On Friday night, Jnanesh had consumed alcohol along with his colleagues when he disclosed about his loans and work pressure. On Saturday morning, he was found dead. Kamalesh, a co-worker said, “We had liquor and then had dinner. Jnanesh then got some more liquor, but we didn’t consume it and went to sleep. I don’t know when he stepped out of the room. I tried to call him on the phone, but he didn’t answer. Then I called the driver and asked whether Jnanesh was at work, but then the driver later told me they found him dead”.

Meanwhile, the family members have raised suspicion over Jnanesh’s death. Uncle Chandru said, “Jnanesh was not the one to end his life. He didn’t have any problems and was happy. Maybe the company with which he worked had something to do with his death. About 15 days ago, he had lodged a complaint with the police regarding the theft of a pumpset”.
