BENGALURU: Actor Dhruvan alias Suraj, the son of late Parvathamma Rajkumar’s brother and producer S A Srinivas, was seriously injured and lost his right leg in a tipper and his motorcycle on Saturday. Dhruvan is now undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) at Manipal Hospital in the city and is still unconscious.

The incident occurred near Hirikati Gate near Chamarajanagar Begur (Gundlupet) under the jurisdiction of Begur police station. Actor Shivarajkumar, producer Chinnegowda and the director of Dhruvan’s movie visited the hospital as soon as they received information about the accident.

Earlier, Dhruvan was taken to a hospital in Mysuru after he sustained serious injuries in the leg. He was later to Manipal Hospital for better treatment. Dhruvan’s right leg was crushed badly below the knee under the wheel of the tipper. It is said that the doctors at Manipal Hospital have amputated the leg below the knee and a major surgery was done on Saturday night, said his close relatives.

Elaborating on the incident that occurred on Saturday, the relative said a tipper that was moving from Begur towards Hirikati collided with Dhuvan’s Royal Enfield motorcycle when he was going from Mysuru to Ooty on a trip. It is said that Dhruvan was overtaking a tractor when the tipper appeared suddenly on the highway, collided with his bike from front and ran over his leg.

The Begur police immediately rushed to the spot after learning about the matter, and shifted the injured Dhruvan to KR Hospital in Mysuru for preliminary treatment, where doctors referred him to Manipal Hospital for further treatment. A case has been registered at Begur police station, and the tipper truck has been seized.

Dhruvan entered the film industry after changing his original name from Suraj. He acted in many films, including ‘Bhagavan Srrikrishna Paramatma’.
