BENGALURU: Election officials seized bundles of cash from two cars after breaking the quarter glass in Jayanagar on Saturday. A woman officer showed courage in getting the glass of the suspicious cars broken and seized the cash.
When the officers arrived at the spot where the cars were parked, five people who were in the cars claimed that the bags contained mangoes. Later, when the officials went to check, the car occupants escaped in one of the cars.
A Volkswagen Polo hatchback , a Toyota Fortuner SUV and a Mercedes-Benz had been parked side by side since 9 am on Saturday. The officials questioned the occupants of the car while they were shifting the money from a bike to a Volkswagen Polo hatchback. Immediately, the five people fled in the Fortuner SUV.
MCC Nodal Officer Manish Moudgil said that the money was found in three bags in one bike and two cars.
The officers broke the glass of the Benz car, took out the bag containing cash and seized the documents inside the car. A mobile phone was also found inside the car. The officials later brought two counting machines to count the cash.
KPCC general secretary Nagaraj and former corporator Nagaraj visited Jayanagar police station and demanded appropriate action. Manish Moudgil said, the woman officer reached the place as soon as they received a phone call and the money in the car was seized.
He added, “We received a phone call in the morning about the cash in the vehicle. Based on that, MCC Nodal officer Nikita visited the place. Immediately, I too came to the place along with the officers. She visited the place within three minutes of receiving the call”.
“When we visited the place, a person was transferring money from a bike to one of the car. There were five people in the car. At this time, Nikita went alone and asked what was in the bag and they claimed it was mangoes. She single-handedly managed the whole raid. Later, our officials confiscated the money in the two-wheeler”, he said.
According to police sources, a total of Rs 1.40 crore was seized.
