Elderly Metro passenger suffers heart attack on train, dies without timely medical intervention

BENGALURU: An elderly passenger on the Namma Metro died suffered a heart attack during the journey and died some time later without receiving immediate medical attention.

Thimme Gowda, the passenger, had boarded a Metro train at Baiyappanahalli and by the time it reached Swami Vivekananda station, he had developed chest pain. Other passengers came to his aid when the train reached MG Road station and left him on the platform.

The passenger did not get timely medical attention.

For about 14 minutes, Thimme Gowda lay helpless on the platform with none of the Metro staff coming to his aid. Later, he was shifted to Sparsh Hospital on Infantry Road by members of the public, but could not be saved.

Based on a complaint from the family that timely first aid was not administered, the Baiyappanahalli police have registered a case and issued a notice to the BMRCL chief security officer Selvam for negligence resulting in death.
