BENGALURU: The Health Department has issued new guidelines for cooking oil extractors, bakeries, and hotels following reports of reused cooking oil.
The department has instructed these establishments to conduct quality analysis tests every six months.
Cooking oil manufacturers are required to ensure proper packaging, labeling, and cleanliness, and sell oil with vitamins A and D, and use oil with low trans fat content. The Food Safety Department has issued instructions after reviewing this with experts. The department has also directed the proper disposal of used oil and its transmission to bio-diesel units, with 32,68,999 litres of used oil reported.
Hotels and bakeries have been strictly instructed not to reuse cooking oil, amid concerns over rising heart attack cases in the state linked to certain cooking oils that increase bad cholesterol.
