Driving license to be suspended for riding 2-wheelers on footpaths, 62k vehicles checked in a week for drunk driving

BENGALURU: The traffic police in Bengaluru have decided to take strict action against two-wheelers rider who ride on footpaths. They have warned that the driving licences (DL) of such riders will be suspended.

The traffic police have cautioned bike riders and car drivers who ride on footpaths that they will face suspension of their driving licences. Cases will also be filed against them, and they will have to pay a penalty. The decision has been taken to ensure the smooth movement of pedestrians on footpaths.

Of late, there has been a rise in the number of vehicles riding on footpaths. This has caused inconvenience to pedestrians, and traffic police have decided to take action against errant riders.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M N Anucheth, the traffic police conducted checks on around 62,300 vehicles for Drunk and Drive (DD) across Bengaluru from January 27 to February 2. During the drive, traffic police found around 800 drivers to be under the influence of alcohol. The vehicles were seized, and a fine of around Rs 80 lakh was collected.
