Driver of bus who drove at high speed on wrong way of Bengaluru-Mysuru highway arrested

MANDYA: The driver and co-driver of a private bus, which was driven up the wrong way on the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway recently, have been arrested by the Srirangapatna Rural police and the vehicle has also been seized.

A video of the bus going at high speed in the wrong direction on August 24 was posted on X tagging ADGP-Traffic Alok Kumar. Netizens had vented their anger at the action of the bus driver for risking the lives of passengers and other motorists. The incident had occurred near Brahmapura in Srirangapatna taluk.

After the video was uploaded on X, ADGP Alok Kumar replied to the post saying, “It’s atrocious and so dangerous. Though vehicle number and other details are not available, Mandya Police is making serious efforts to trace the bus and take stringent action. Such violations having a serious bearing on the safety of Road users won’t be condoned”.

He further said, “Mandya Police has contacted VRL Co. It’s a bus with MH passing and as of now the errant driver along with the bus is in Mumbai. Driver would be produced before police on Tuesday. We will register a case for dangerous driving”.

Following the arrest of the driver Prashanth and co-driver Neelappa, Alok Kumar posted on X saying, “Mumbai to Mandya. Driver driving on wrong side at a very high speed on Bengaluru- Mysore Highway 4 days back, along with the bus involved, to be produced before the local court. Wrong side driving is a serious threat to road safety & passenger safety”.
