Driver escapes with realtor’s Ford Endeavour car and Rs 75 lakh cash, held

BENGALURU: A realtor’s car driver, who had fled with Rs 75 lakh in cash and a Ford Endeavour SUV in September, has been arrested by the Byatarayanapura police on October 14.

Harish, the realtor, had gone to a resort along with his car driver Santosh (36). After their work, they were heading back to the city when he asked his driver to stop the car for a smoke break. When he returned to the car, he saw that his driver had escaped with the vehicle and money.

The realtor’s car driver escaped with Rs 75 lakh in cash and a Ford Endeavour SUV near Byatarayanapura in September.

With the bag of money, Santosh travelled around all the temples in the state. He slept on the temple premises and had food at temples to avoid any suspicion. A case was registered at Byatarayanapura police station on September 19. Following the complaint, the police arrested Santosh from Sringeri and recovered Rs 72 lakh and the car from him.

“On October 12, Harish, a resident of Electronics City and a realtor, filed a complaint that his car driver had absconded with his SUV and Rs 75 lakh cash. The realtor had sold two flats in Hyderabad and the money was related to business. While coming to the city, the realtor asked him to stop the car near Byatarayanapura to take a break. At that time, he escaped with the money and a car. We arrested the accused on October 14 and recovered a Ford Endeavour vehicle and Rs 72 lakh in cash. Further investigation is going on. We have written a letter to the Income Tax department to check the source of money and have sent a notice to the realtor too,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Laxman B Nimbargi.
