BENGALURU: Popular Kannada film director S Narayan has been named as an accused in an alleged dowry case filed by his daughter-in-law at the Jnanabharati police station. Narayan has been named as the second accused in the FIR filed in connection with the case while his son Pavan is the first accused and his wife Bhagyavathi the third accused.

As per the complaint filed by Narayan’s daughter-in-law Pavithra, she and Pavan got married in February 2021 at ITC Gardenia and he was given a finger ring worth Rs 1 lakh while her family bore the wedding expenses. Since Pavan was not educationally qualified, she took up a job and was taking care of household expenses.

Pavan sought more money to start the Kala Samrat Institute and Pavithra said she had given her mother’s gold ornaments to him. However, the venture suffered losses and she took a loan of Rs 10 lakh, she claimed. However, Narayan, his wife Bhagyavathi and son Pavan started demanding more money and threw her out of the house, she claimed. Pavithra also noted that if any harm came to her or her son, Narayan and his family would be responsible.

Reacting to the development, Narayan told Public TV that Pavithra left their home about one year ago and has lodged a complaint only now. “She has claimed that we troubled her and the matter has now gone to court. She did not want to stay with us and moved out on her own on July 12 last year. Let her be wherever she is happy. Everyone knows my personality and character”, he added.
