BENGALURU: Bengaluru has finally got its much-awaited double-decker flyover, which was constructed at a cost Rs 449 crore. It was opened to traffic movement today on a trial basis.
Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, accompanied by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, inaugurated the flyover.
This is the first flyover in South India to have a metro line on an elevated road. It has five ramps and the 3.36 km stretch connects Ragigudda metro station to Hosur Road passing through HSR Layout, BTM Layout and Silk Board Junction.

The Rs 449 crore flyover has a four-lane stretch at a height of eight meters above the ground, and a Metro corridor at a height of 16 meters above the ground.

Later, Shivakumar himself drove a car on the flyover along with Ramalinga Reddy as a trial. All forms of vehicles, including buses and cars can ply on the flyover. The Metro rail will run on the second phase route. This bridge is constructed in the form of wings on one side of the metro pillar.
The flyover is expected to reduce traffic to the Central Silk Board junction and employees working in Electronics City will get relief from traffic jams. There will be uninterrupted traffic flow for 3.3 km, so motorists get on to the flyover, they are not allowed to get down anywhere for 3.3 km. However, provision has been made for U-turns.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has constructed a 31 meter high flyover along Marenahalli Road and RV Road-Bommasandra Metro line has been constructed in the second phase. This is the first flyover in South India to have a metro line on an elevated road.
The first phase of the road flyover for the Yellow Line Metro from Ragigudda to CSB Junction has already been constructed. According to the BMRCL, (A), (B) and (C) ramps were to be completed and begin operation by May 2024. The (D) and (E) ramps will be commissioned by December 2024.
