CHIKKAMAGALUR: The occupants of a car and a few bystanders had a lucky escape after an old overhead water tank, marked for demolition, came crashing down due to the negligence of the officials and workers in Ajjampura town on Friday.
The 80-year-old water tank on Bukkabundi Road had become dilapidated and was ordered for demolition by the district deputy commissoner. However, the local officials had not taken any precautionary measures before it was demolished.
Even as the demolition work was in progress, the overhead water tank came crashing down on some electricity poles and broke into pieces. The windshield of a passing car was damaged while some bystanders ran to safety. A video of the incident is now being widely shared on social media.
