Dietician at Mangaluru hospital fired after controversial post, FIR filed

MANGALURU: A dietician at a private hospital was dismissed from service after her anti-national and anti-Hindu remarks on social media created much outrage online. The Pandeshwar police have also filed an FIR against her.

Dr Afeefa Fathima, who goes by the handle @whosafeefaa on X, had posted saying, “HELP STINKY HINDUS BEHIMD ME”. She also wrote, “AM I INDIAN- YES, DO I HATE INDIA – YES”. Dr Afifa was working with Highland Hospital in Mangaluru.

Following the outrage over her post, the hospital management decided to terminate her services. The Pandeshwar police also registered an FIR against Dr Afifa under BNS Sections 196(1)(a), 353(2) based on based on a complaint from one Mohammed Aslam. Further investigation is under way.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal said, “Two days ago, a post made by the woman went viral in Mangaluru. Taking swift action, we contacted the hospital administration where she was employed and registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)”.

“The woman was summoned for investigation, and the mobile phone used to upload the post had been seized. Forensic analysis of the device is currently under way. Based on the results, further legal action will follow”, said the Police Commissioner.

The dietician’s case comes to light four days after a case was registered in the city against a Facebook user named ‘Nichchu Mangaluru’ for allegedly justifying April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Konaje police filed an FIR following a complaint by Satish Kumar, a resident of the Ullal area.

As per the police, the post contained inflammatory and provocative language aimed at disturbing public peace. The complaint included screenshots of the post and the user’s profile as supporting evidence.
