TUMAKURU: Five people, including an deputy tahsildhar, have been arrested for manipulating land records and transferring 450 acres of government land to the names of 137 individuals.
The arrested are Hagalavadi deputy tahlisdhar Chetan, First Division Assistants Satish and Rajesh, broker Kariyanna and Raju. They are now in the custody of the Gubbi police.
The accused had manipulated the land mutation records by hand in 1999-2000 to show 450 acres of gomala land in Hagalavadi , Kasaba, Nittur and CS Pura hoblis as belonging to private parties.
After those cultivating the land complained, the tahsildhar examined the record room and found that the documents had been manipulated.
