BENGALURU: Even as the alliance partners BJP and JD(S) are yet to finalise a candidate for the Channapatna Assembly bypoll, there seems to be competition for the Congress ticket in KPCC president D K Shivakumar’s family itself.

Shivakumar’s brother-in-law C P Sharat Chandra has apparently sought the ticket for himself in the even D K Suresh is not chosen as the candidate. Amid the search for a suitable candidate, this has come as a headache for the Deputy CM.

Sharat Chandra had previously contest the Channapatna APMC election. Hailing from Channapatna, he had contested the 2023 Assembly election on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket. In December last year, he, along with some AAP members, had joined the Congress.

Some of those who had joined the Congress along with Sharat Chandra have also written to Shivakumar that he should be given the party ticket from Channapatna is D K Suresh is not contesting. Earlier, Shivakumar had declared that he himself would be the party candidate from Channapatna for the bypoll.
