BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar conducted ‘Bengaluru Nadige’ (Walk for Bengaluru) programme at Gandhi Park at Bharat Nagar in Herohalli and interacted with locals, listening to their concerns. He later addressed a gathering, assuring solutions to the issues raised. Hundreds of people participated, highlighting local problems.

Shivakumar stated that Bengaluru is growing city, and the government has created five corporations and the Greater Bengaluru Authority to address citizens’ issues.

He also criticized Union Minister Kumaraswamy, asking, “Is he ready to set up industries in Mandya, Ramanagara, or Bidadi if we are ready to give land?” Shivakumar slammed Bangalore South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya for not bringing any central funds and criticizing their programme.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who lashed out at MP Tejasvi Surya, said that the MP has not brought a single rupee from the central government so far. “He criticizes our programmes and claims that the underground tunnel in Lalbagh will pose problems, but there will be no problem for Lalbagh”, the Deputy CM said.

After the Walk for Bengaluru, Deputy CM said, “Bengaluru has grown, and I have provided Cauvery water to 110 villages since I arrived. People here weren’t getting Cauvery water properly. We are also converting B khata to A khata for payment of  5 per cent of guidance and properties are being scanned. The BDA area will become GBA. You have spoken about garbage, toilets, roads, bus stands, coordination committees, and Metro. Arrangements are being made. People have been informed us about lakes, gardens, encroachments, and more”, he added.

“As several people suggested, installing CCTV cameras, building stadiums and crematoriums are being set up. I will address everything. Some areas will be included as per law. Everyone has spoken about Somashekhar, who has done 95 pc of the work. You have got a good MLA”, DK Shivakumar appreciated.

“Vehicles are increasing daily in Bengaluru, but we can’t widen roads much. We are doing everything, including the Peripheral Ring Road. Farmers have approached courts, but I will do my work. We will provide compensation when acquiring land”, he said.

“This area is new, not old, and has been established for 25 years. There is more pressure and the middle class is predominant. Kempegowda Layout is nearby and there are many basic problems,” he added.

Shivakumar hit out at Tejasvi Surya and asked, “Who is Tejasvi Surya? We must drill within Bengaluru, not outside. Criticisms will come and go, but work will remain. No work was done during the BJP’s tenure. They were only working for the benefit of the rich. The Prime Minister hasn’t given a single rupee. What’s their plan of action? They are helpless. The people brought us to power because the BJP already ruined the state,” he alleged.
