The man staged a hit-and-run accident and got his father killed.

KALABURAGI: What was believed to be a hit-and-run accident which occurred six months ago, leaving a man dead and his son with minor injuries, has turned out to be a case of a hit job (supari killing) ordered by the son on the father. The motive for the murder was to grab the life insurance sum and the police have since arrested the son along with three others.

Satish, who ran a hotel, is the son of Kalinga Rao, a resident of Adarsh Nagar. He lived with his parents and brother, but had run up huge debts as he was unable to manage the hotel business properly. He was also upset with the constant pressure from lender to repay the loans.

Arun, who was working in Satish’s hotel, gave him an idea to eliminate his father and take the insurance money to get rid of his financial troubles. Accordingly, Satish took two short-term insurance plan in his father’s name and paid the insurance premium.

In July last year, Satish took his father to Bennur (B) village in Chittapur taluk on a scooter on the pretext of getting a loan. Midway, near Bennur (B) Cross, Satish stopped the two-wheeler by the roadside when a tractor ran over Kalinga Rao and escaped, Police Superintendent Adduru Srinivasulu said.

Following the accident, Satish registered a complaint with the Madbool police station alleging that an unidentified vehicle had knocked them down. A police team was set up under Kalagi PSI Jagadevappa Pala and notices were issued to Satish to present himself for inquiry. Satish appeared before the police on some occasions, but skipped on several other occasions, the SP said.

The police had their suspicions about the scene of the accident.

Growing suspicious about Satish’s statements and the scene of the accident, the police picked up Arun, who revealed the plot. He also revealed that Satish had offered him Rs 5 lakh to eliminate Kalinga Rao and had given Rs 3.5 lakh from one of the insurance payouts. Satish had also paid Rs 50,000 each to Rakesh and Yuvaraj who had brought the tractor which ran over his father. The Madbool police have since arrested Satish, Arun, Rakesh and Yuvaraj, the SP said.
