BENGALURU: The city’s pothole problem has left citizens exasperated. People are venting their frustration on the government, saying that along with the guarantee schemes, they have also been given the “gift” of potholes.

The earlier deadline to make the city pothole-free ended on November 4. Since the potholes have not been filled yet, the deadline has been extended till November 10.

Citizens are now raising questions whether the officials and contractor actually care about the orders of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and the GBA Commissioner. There are over 16,000 potholes in the city, with thousands more on main roads, sub-roads and in wards which have not been tarred yet.

GBA Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has cited the excuse that the civic body couldn’t fill potholes last month due to rain. Despite the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister setting several deadlines to fill potholes urgently, the city remains far from being pothole-free.

Just two days ago, the Chief Commissioner instructed GBA officials to fill all potholes within a week. It remains to be seen how effectively the officials and staff will implement this directive.
