KOPPAL: Days after an Israeli tourist and a homestay operator were gangraped by three youths and the death of another Odia tourist, the police, led by SP Ram L Arasiddi, conducted raids at resorts and homestays on Monday night over allegations of illegal activities.

The raids were carried out on resorts in Basapura in Koppal taluk and Sanapura in Gangavathi taluk and liquor permits and other documents were checked. The SP warned the managements of strict action if any illegal activities are found to be taking place.

Meanwhile, following the incident, there has been a dip in tourists with cancelling their advance bookings and resorts almost empty. Israeli tourists were mostly at Sanapura and Anegondi and most of them are vacating their rooms.

In a related development, the three youths arrested for the gangrape, were produced before a magistrate on Monday evening who remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days. The accused Mallesh a.k.a. Handi Mallesh, Chetan Sai Sillekyathar and Sharanabasava have been sent to the Koppal central prison.

The three youths had allegedly consumed ganja before committing the gangrape and were caught on a CCTV camera buying the narcotic. Late evening on March 6, they were aslo captured on CCTV camera purshasing liquor at a bar in Gangavathi.
