MYSURU: A day after a mob pelted stones at the Udayagiri police station here, leaving several police personnel injured, the police have identified a provocative speech by one Mufti Mushtaq Maqbool, for the violence. They are now on the lookout for the individual while eight people have been arrested.

A mob pelted stones at the Udayagiri police station on Tuesday night, leaving many police personnel injured.

The Mysuru police, led by Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, are going from house to house and shops in Udayagiri based on the mobile tower location of the accused at the time of the incident. However, the accused are missing and the police are on the lookout for them. Meanwhile, the CCB police are examining footage from the 10 CCTV cameras installed at the Udayagiri police station.

A group chased a police car and pelted stones at it.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident in Mysuru, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar said he stands with the police while dismissing minister Rajanna’s claims. “The police are working properly and they are not at fault. I am with the police”, he said.

Two of those who have been arrested in the case.

Mufti Mushtaq Maqbool reportedly made provocative speeches holding a public address system and called for death sentence and hanging for one Suresh for allegedly targeting Muslims.

Those arrested include Suhail aka Syed Suhail, Raheel Pasha, Syed Sadiq, Ayan, Ajaz, Sadiq Pasha, Arbaz Sharif and Shoaib Pasha. More arrests in the case are expected in the coming days.
