Davanagere University prof arrested in NAAC bribery case suspended for 6 months

DAVANAGERE: A special meeting of the Davanagere University Syndicate has decided to place Prof Gayatri Devaraj under suspension for six months after she was arrested by the CBI in connection with a case related to bribery involving a NAAC assessment team she was part of.

The professor was suspended as the Karnataka Civil Services Rules (KSCR) and a copy of the suspension order was sent to the governor by university vice-chancellor Prof B D Kumbhar.

Prof Gayatri Devaraj was part of a NAAC team and was arrested by the CBI for taking bribes to award A++ grade to the KLEF Deemed To Be University

Deemed University in Vijayawada. The CBI had arrested 10 people, including a JNU professor in the case for receiving bribes of Rs 37 lakh, six Lenovo laptops and iPhones.

Gayatri Devaraj, a microbiology professor, was the only individual from the Davanagere University on the NAAC committee. She was also registrar at the university for a period of one year and four months.
