Davanagere police register case against 6 youths over Ganesha procession route dispute

The police had not approved the route sought by the Ganesha Samithi.

DAVANAGERE: The Basavanagar police here have registered a suo motu case against six youths Davanagere Town Boys’ Ganesha Samithi for insisting on a particular route for the Ganesha idol immersion to days ago.

The Samithi had sought permisison to take out a procession from Basavarajpet and passing through Madina auto stand and Hamsabhavi Circle. However, the police denied permission citing that it was a sensitive area and had suggested a different route.

However, locals staged a day-long protest claiming that they have been taking out the procession through the same route over the years and also said that the route suggested by the police would bring misfortune as it was towards the left of the place where the Ganesha idol had been installed.

After the police registered a case against the Samithi members, Hindu activists vented their anger at the government for targeting them and indulging in appeasement politics.
