MYSURU: Ahead of the Dasara festival, the first batch of nine elephants were weighed in to ascertain their general health condition on Wednesday. The elephants were brought from the forest camp to the palace premises last week.
The elephants were weighed at the Sairam weigh bridge in Devaraja Mohalla and all the elephants were found to be healthy. The Dasara elephants were brought from Mysuru palace to the weighing centre under police security.
Elephant captain Abhimanyu was the heaviest of them all, weighing 5,160 kg. With this, he is considered healthy and the strongest among them. Based on the weight of the elephants, their food and training will be scheduled. The elephants are healthy and steps are being taken to provide them with proper food and training after the Gajapayana.
Followed by Captain Abhimanyu, elephant Vijaya weighed 2,830 kg, Bhima tipped the scales at 4,370 kg, Varalakshmi weighed 3,020 kg, Mahendra 4,530 kg, and Dhananjaya weighed 4,940 kg. The other elephants weighed were Kanjan, who weighed 4,240 kg and Gopi at 5,080 kg.
