MYSURU: The first batch of nine elephants, which have arrived at the Mysuru palace for the Dasara celebration, underwent a weight check on Saturday morning. Howdah elephant Abhimanyu weighed the highest at 5,560 kg.
The elephants were taken to a weighbridge on Dhanvantri Road from the palace premises for the weigh-in. The kumki elephant Lakshmi weighed the least, tipping the scales at 2,480 kg. The nine elephants had been brought to the palace premises from Aranya Bhavan only on Friday.
Among the others elephants, Varalakshmi weighed 3,495 kg, Bhima 4,945 kg, Ekalavya 4,730 kg, Rohit 3,625 kg, Gopi 4,970 kg, Kanjan 4,515 kg and Dhananjaya 5,155 kg. The elephants will be put on a nutritious diet till the Dasara procession to ensure that they do not lose weight.
