CHAMARAJANAGAR: Dasara elephant Rohit, who was in a state of musth, went on a rampage in the Bandipur forest on Wednesday, attacking a mahout and blocking traffic movement. The elephant was later captured and chained near the Forest Department reception area where forest personnel were keeping a watch on it.
The elephant Rohit was brought from the Rampura elephant camp to Bandipur for special training. However, the elephant cut itself loose and went on a rampage, affecting traffic movement. Venkatesh, the mahout of elephant Parthasarathi, was also injured in the attempt to capture Rohit and was rushed to a hospital in Mysuru.
The elephant Rohit had entered the forest along with a long tethering chain at its leg. The Forest Department staff finally managed to bring it under control and are keeping a watch over it.
