MYSURU: A major mishap was averted after two Dasara elephants engaged in a fight on the Mysuru palace premises, where they are housed. Thanks to the quick thinking of one of the mahouts, one of the elephants was calmed down before any untoward incident occurred.
On Friday evening, Dasara elephant Dhananjaya started chasing Kanjan on the palace premises which ran without its mahout. When Dhananjaya continued the pursuit, Kanjan broke the barricade near the Jayamarthanda Gate and headed to the main road outside the palace.
Abhimanyu’s mahout succeeded in quickly calming it down and seeing Dhananjaya turn away, Kanjan too stopped in its tracks. The mahout then led Kanjan back into the palace premises.
A video of the incident went viral on social media on Saturday. Palace guide Yogesh, who shot the video said, “The incident occurred around 7.45 pm and the elephants broke the barricade and went out. One of them stopped soon after and the other one too stopped a little ahead.
“The mahouts controlled the elephants and brought them back. There were not many people at that time. If it was a weekend, there would be more people and there was a possibility of an untoward incident”, he added.
