BENGALURU: A day after securing a court order to shift actor Darshan to the Ballari jail, the police questioned him regarding the video call from the Parappana Agrahara central jail with some history-sheeters. He is likely to be shifted early on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, a city court extended the judicial custody of Darshan and the other accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. The prosecution told the court that the role of all the accused in the case has been established and the statements of some of them remain to be recorded under Section 164. There is a possibility of destruction of evidence, enticement of witnesses or threats to the family of the deceased and some more FSL reports are awaited, the prosecution claimed.
On Wednesday morning, a police team led by DCP Sarah Fathima took into custody the visitor entry log book at Parappana Agrahara central jail to check who had met him on Tuesday. The team also checked the barracks of Darshan and Wilson Garden Nagar and seized CCTV footage. The police will also record the statements of the jail chief superintendent and superintendent on Thursday.
The police also questioned Darshan about the video call with a history-sheeter from jail. Darshan reportedly told them that he did not know who was on the other end of the phone and just wished the person out of courtesy.
“Some person came to me saying a fan wanted to speak. I didn’t know who they were. Since he said he was my fan, out of courtesy, I asked whether he had had food”, Darshan told the police. He was also questioned about the coffee mug and cigarette in the lawn of the jail premises.
On Tuesday the 24th ACJM court in Bengaluru allowed shifting of Darshan to Ballari jail, Raghavendra Pavan and Nandish to Mysuru jail, Jagadish and Lakshman to Shivamogga jail, Janardhan to Dharwad, Vinay to Vijayapura, Nagaraj to Kalaburagi and Pradosh to Belagavi jails.
While Pavitra Gowda, Anukumar and Deepak will continue to remain in the Parappana Agrahara central prison, Ravishankar, Karthik, Keshavamurthy and Nikhil Naik are lodged at the Tumakuru jail.
