The BJP MLA had made objectionable remarks against the Davanagere police superintendent.

DAVANAGERE: Activists of the Dalit Vimochana Sene on Thursday staged a protest near the police superintendent’s office here to condemn the controversial remarks made by Harihar BJP MLA B P Harish and SP Uma Prashant. They also demanded his immediate arrest.

Meanwhile, the KTG Nagar police had served a notice to the MLA on Wednesday evening asking the MLA to present himself for inquiry at 11 am today. However, the MLA did not show up at the police station. Police inspector Sunil Kumar had visited the MLA’s house on Wednesday evening and served the notice to the MLA’s wife as he was away in Bengaluru.

The action follows a complaint lodged by Police Superintendent Uma Prashant at the KTG Nagar police station against the MLA. The case has been registered under Sections 132 (using criminal force to deter a public servant from performing their duty), 351(2) (criminal intimidation and 79 (words, gestures, or objects intended to insult the modesty of a woman or intrude on her privacy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The SP told media persons that she had herself lodged the complaint at the KTG Nagar police station. When asked whether she would approach the state women’s commission too, she said, “I will think about it and take the next step”.

A few days ago, the BJP MLA, while targeting Congress minister S S Mallikarjun, had compared the SP to a pomeranian dog outside Shamanur Shivashankarappa’s house. “When she comes towards us, she turns her face away”, he had remarked.
