D K Shivakumar illegal assets: CBI may file chargesheet in case by mid-March

BENGALURU: With the Assembly election approaching, the investigating agencies seem to be tightening the screws on Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing an illegal assets case against the Congress leader is all set to submit its chargesheet by mid-March.

The KPCC chief, who is harbouring hopes of becoming the Chief Minister may be in for a shock with the election just about three months away. The CBI has already filed an FIR accusing Shivakumar of amassing 49 per cent disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 79 crore more than his known sources of income.

Shivakumar had claimed before the CBI that his main source of income is agriculture and that the family cultivates groundnuts and ragi. He had also claimed that he had purchased all the properties with his agricultural income.

The CBI has collected documents to establish the disproportionate assets which will be submitted along with the chargesheet as evidence. These include when land was purchased, land documents of 10 years, value of commercial properties, mall, house, apartments, etc.
