BENGALURU: The 18-year-long dream of Kannadigas was fulfilled when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the IPL trophy this season, but the celebration was short-lived. A stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in the tragic loss of 11 innocent lives.
However, fortunately, the felicitation ceremony for RCB players held on the grand steps of the Vidhana Soudha did not witness any major mishaps. Despite this, the massive crowd gathered in front of Vidhana Soudha and the High Court caused significant damage to the area.
The crowd trampled and destroyed plants, decorative pots and barricades in front of Vidhana Soudha and the High Court. The destruction wasn’t limited to Vidhana Soudha. The crazed youths jumped over the gates of Cubbon Park and even climbed trees, causing damage to plants inside the park.
The Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association has taken a strong stance on this issue and plans to file a complaint against the Chief Secretary, RCB, KSCA and DNA Entertainment Networks for the damage caused.
According to Umesh, president of the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association, vehicles were even driven through the children’s park, highlighting the extent of the chaos and disregard for public property. “The association is taking steps to hold those responsible accountable for the destruction”, he said.
Jagadish, Joint Director, Horticulture Department, speaking about the damage to Cubbon Park properties, “Small plants were destroyed by the crowd, and the road median was broken. There is a need to plant fresh saplings and repair barricades. As I have seen, some boys climbed Christmas trees and other smaller trees, which are very delicate. If the branches had broken, they would definitely have suffered fractures. Who would have been responsible if any such thing had happened?” he questioned.
