MANDYA: A youth who had livestreamed an attack on another youth with machetes was arrested after he was shot at while trying to escape after attacking police personnel near B Hosur on Wednesday. The arrested accused Subhash (19) a.k.a. Subbu has at least five cases registered against him and had been absconding.
Manday East police sub-inspector Sheshadri Kumar and team had gone to arrest Subhash when he attacked the officer. The PSI shot Subhash in the right leg in self defence. The injured accused is now admitted to the MIMS hospital for treatment.
Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baladandi said no complaint had been lodged after the livestreamed video was shared widely. “The youth who was assaulted in the video is Yeshwanth of T Narsipur in Mysuru taluk and we took a complaint from him. At that time, he revealed the names of four of the attackers. Three police teams were formed and we received information that Subhash was hiding near B Hosur and four of the youths were arrested on Tuesday evening”.
“However, Subhash managed to escape and during searches in the area on Wednesday morning, Subhash was found and he tried to attack PSI Sheshadri with a stone. The officer fired at him the leg and he is now undergoing treatment at hospital”, the SP said.
