Criminal shot in the leg after attack on policement in Ron village

GADAG: A criminal wanted in a theft case, who had attacked two policemen, was shot in the leg near Kurahatti village in Ron taluk on Saturday. He was first taken to the taluk hospital in Ron and later shifted to the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS).

Bagairali Irani (29), who had been picked up by the Gangavathi police in connection with a theft that was reported near the health camp in Gadag on June 28, had attacked a few policemen and fled.

On Saturday, when the Betageri Extension police in Gadag had gone to arrest him in connection with the assault on policemen, he again attacked two police personnel, Hanumantha Olekar and Ashok Gadad. Then, police inspector Dheeraj Shinde opened fire at Bagairali, injuring him in the left leg.

The injured policemen are undergoing treatment at the Ron taluk hospital. Police Superintendent B S Nemagouda visited the hospital and checked on the injured policemen and accused. A case has been registered at the Ron police station.
