BENGALURU: A prominent road in the city, Church Street, was given a new look using interlocking bricks by spending crores of rupees under the TenderSURE project. But now it’s completely damaged and has developed a giant crater with the interlocking bricks having come out.
Church Street is one of the most popular upscale hangouts in Bengaluru with several businesses. The BBMP relaid the road to make it more friendly for pedestrians. But huge gaps have developed in the interlocking bricks within a few years of their construction bringing Bengaluru’s reputation to question. Citizens is now accusing the BBMP and the government of poor quality work. People from different states and countries visit posh Church Street to hang out and to shop.
Several bricks are missing, some of them are broken, and as a result, a giant crater surfaced on the road.
Road users and motorists alike are cursing the engineers of the Palike. Citizens are now demanding that the Palike take immediate action and fix the crater.
