RAMANAGARA: The Sathanur police have arrested cow vigilante Puneeth Kerehalli, who was wanted in the case related to the suspicious death of a cattle transporter, and four of his associates from Rajasthan.
On March 31, Puneeth and his associates had stopped a truck carrying cattle near Sathanur and attacked Idrees Pasha of Mandya, who was transporting the cattle. Pasha’s body was found face down close to the spot the next day, followng which his brother filed a complaint with the police. The police had filed an FIR against Puneeth under Sections 241, 504, 506, 324, 302, 34. Puneeth and his associates had been on the run for the last five days.
Ramanagara Superintendent of Police Karthik Reddy said three FIRs were registered in the case and four teams were formed to nab the accused. “They were arrested Banaswara, a border district, with the help of the Gujarat and Rajasthan police on Wednesday afternoon. The arrested are Puneeth Kerehalli (A1), Gopi (A2), Pavan Kumar (A3), Pilling Ambigar (A4) and Suresh Kumar (A5)”.
The SP further said, “They will be produced before a local court to seek transit remand and then brought to Ramanagara. The accused had switched off their phones and were on the run for the last five days, but they were tracked on the basis of the location of their mobile phones. Puneeth has 11 cases registered against him and all of them will be investigated”.
