BENGALURU: Miscreants killed a cow after slashing its udder at Soolivara village under Chikkanagahlli gram panchayat in Yeshwantpur Assembly constituency on Friday afternoon when the animal was grazing on a farm land. Despite five hours of surgery, the cow could not be saved.
The cow belonged to the Soolivara milk producers’ association president Maribasavaiah and the act was allegedly committed by Gurusiddappa and his brothers from the same village over an 10-year-old property dispute.
Maribasavaiah’s family members said Gurubasavaiah and his brothers committed the act and then alerted the family themselves. “We have a property dispute with them over the last 10 years. But it is not right to kill a cow by slashing its udders”, they said.
Maribasavaiah said, “We are not on talking terms with Gurusiddappa and his family though their land is next to ours. We suspect that they are involved in the incident as the cow had strayed into their land”. His wife Bhagyamma, with tears in her eyes, said, “Whatever their anger may be, they should not have killed the cow”.
The Tavarekere police visited the spot and recorded the statement of Maribasavaiah after conducting a spot inspection. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
