BENGALURU: The 57th CCH court has ordered that the Rs 82 lakh cash discovered at the residence of actor Darshan, an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, be retained by the Income Tax Department as he has not submitted proper documentation.

During the investigation, the Kamakshipalya police seized the money from Darshan’s residence and from Pradosh’s house and handed it over to the Income Tax Department. The IT investigation has still not provided clear information about the source of the money.

In view of this, Darshan had filed a petition in court requesting the return of the Rs  82 lakh. The IT department objected to Darshan’s petition, stating that he is not providing clear information, and therefore the investigation must continue.

Darshan’s lawyer argued about the presence of the cash Darshan’s house. He said Darshan had given the money as a loan to Mohan Raj, who later repaid it and the cash was kept at home.

The Income Tax Department countered that Darshan has not submitted proper documentation for this money and claimed it is fraudulent.

All accused — Raghavendra, Karthik, and Nikhal Naik — were produced through video conference while Keshavamurthy was absent. A request was made to summon witnesses and the court asked for a list of witnesses.

Another accused Nandish’s request for transfer to Chitradurga was also dismissed.
